Recycling is always a good idea. When the purpose of recycling is helping animals, this idea becomes even better.A young Brazilian artist named Amarildo Silva had the best idea ever. Using his art and some old tires he created magic.
He was inspired by the huge number of stray animals on the streets, which is five times more than the number of homeless people. Seeing these stray animals curling up in the used tires at night made him think of a way how he can help them and that’s how his great idea was born.
Amarildo started to collect lots of old and used tires all around town. His plan was to recycle them by turning them into cozy little beds for stray dogs and cats. Then he planned to put the beds into the streets of the town for the animals to use. Besides providing a bed for animals, doing so would make the streets looks better and brighten the whole town.
When Amarildo started his project, he was working in a supermarket. He sold the first six beds that he made to his colleagues at work. Seeing that his project might turn out into something big, he decided to leave his work and extend the project further. So, he became a self-employed artist and his dream of always being his own boss became true.
He took the business with the tires more seriously and started working harder. This business was special to Amarildo because he saw it as a great way to help the homeless animals and the environment at the same time. Recycling old tires would reduce a lot of waste, since they take decades to decompose.
So, he takes different old tires, some big and some small, and cuts them in interesting shapes. Then he paints the tires with different colors, adding shapes and symbols on them. When he knows the name of the animal, he adds even that on the tire. In the end, he adds a soft cushion and a matching pillow in order to make the bed as comfortable as possible.
After making a lot of beds for stray animals, his project started to gain local attention. Everybody was delighted by the idea and they loved and supported it.
Soon after, Amarildo was invited to present his project at community events and schools. They also wanted him to talk about the importance of sustainability.
Now, Amarildo owns his own official business – Cãominhas Pets, which makes sustainable and long-lasting beds for animals, either homeless ones or ones that already have a home.
His idea has extended further: he’s started using old tires for other purposes too, for example making colorful recycling containers like shown in the picture below:
Besides these, he also started making colorful furniture that lasts long and is good for the environment.
“Over the course of two years, I already removed 1,500 units of old tires from the environment making only the [pet beds]. This certainly makes a very big positive impact on nature,” Silva said to Green Matters, an environmental blog.Check the video below to see some of Silva’s awesome work of art.
